Youth Empowerment and Positive Development Program

How It Works

This programme equips young people (youth) 18 years and above who have finished high school or are in their last year of school and or those who have dropped out of school to find pathways to take charge of their lives.

We understand that youth go through confusing times at this stage of their lives and are often at a loss as to how to navigate life after finishing school.   We aim to walk with our youth to develop the competencies, skills and abilities they need to grow and flourish through life.  Our main focus is on less privileged youths at the community level but also interact with young people from all walks of life to foster connectedness and peer interaction.

The program generally seeks to foster positive social transformation to enhance positive character development and values with peers, and with family and also promotes community connectedness within their communities and across communities. Our core goal is to increase self-esteem, confidence and a positive self-identity that leads to a bright future and develops resilience.

The program is based on the following:

Fostering connectedness and healthy relationships and bonding

we are facilitating creation of opportunities within the community for youth to participate in joint activities that promote solidarity building, connectedness and peer to peer development.  We do this by supporting the creation of platforms and spaces where young people come together to share, learn and network for self and group development.   We mobilise youth to form groups that are saving together through table banking format and to pursue common interest which often includes sports, volunteering and doing business together. Our aim to enable youth gain pro-social connectedness that enable them have transformative experiences that change their livelihoods.

Within this we are empowering youth to learn how to work with each other in diverse circumstances empowering them to positively work together and come up with codes of conduct for collaboration, group formation and development, leadership and productiveness.

Personal and career development

we support creation of opportunities within the community for youth to participate in internships and apprenticeships with local employers and in community service to foster skill building.  This includes fostering opportunities for youth to participate in voluntary services to keep positively engaged as they practice positive soft skills.  We also  support youth to gain capacity and understand requirements for furthering education and for gaining additional technical skills in IT, vocational skills etc

We identify and link youth to positive adult role models and mentors, coaches, and community leaders to facilitate  to help youth gain technical skills and education.
